چکیده

there are numerous, often contradictory reports on the effect of growth hormone (gh) therapy on thyroid function. these reports prompted us to evaluate the impact of gh therapy on thyroid function in previously euthyroid children with gh deficiency. twenty five clinically and biochemically euthyroid children with gh deficiency were studied. a thyroid profile (t4, free t4, t3 and tsh) was performed at baseline and 3, 6 and 12 months after gh therapy in 21 children with idiopathic growth hormone deficiency (group a) and 4 children with organic gh deficiency (group b). we observed a significant reduction in serum t4 and free t4 concentrations during gh therapy in both groups ( p

Growth hormone replacement therapy in growth hormone deficient children and adults: Effects on hemochrome.

Several lines of evidence have suggested a role of the GH/IGF-I axis in the regulation of hemochrome. Many studies have been carried out in GH deficient children and adults about this topic, reporting predominantly a positive effect of recombinant human GH (rhGH) on red series, with no action on serum leucocytes and platelets counts. The aim of this study was to assess the impact of GH deficien...

Optimization of growth hormone therapy in growth hormone deficient children.

Successful treatment with human growth hormone (hGH) was initially reported by Raben in 19581. Although itis well established that pituitary derived or biosynthetic hGH increases the growth rate in growth hormone deficient children, many patients that were treated in the early days have not reached their target height, or attained adult height below the third percentile of population standards ...

Adverse effects of growth hormone replacement therapy in children.

Human growth hormone (hGH) replacement therapy has been widely available for clinical purposes for more than fifty years. Starting in 1958, hGH was obtained from cadaveric pituitaries, but in 1985 the association between hGH therapy and Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease was reported. In the same year, the use of recombinant hGH (rhGH) was approved. Side effects of rhGH replacement therapy in children a...

Effect of growth hormone therapy on the proinflammatory cytokine profile in growth hormone-deficient children.

The aim of the present study was to establish whether growth hormone (GH) treatment in vivo affects pro-inflammatory cytokine production by resting or in vitro, activated, cultured, peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC) from children with complete growth hormone deficiency (GHD). We evaluated 11, pre-pubertal children (6 males and 5 females) with GHD, aged between 6 and 14 years, and 9, age...

Effects of Growth Hormone Replacement Therapy on Bone Mineral Density in Growth Hormone Deficient Adults: A Meta-Analysis

Objectives. Growth hormone deficiency patients exhibited reduced bone mineral density compared with healthy controls, but previous researches demonstrated uncertainty about the effect of growth hormone replacement therapy on bone in growth hormone deficient adults. The aim of this study was to determine whether the growth hormone replacement therapy could elevate bone mineral density in growth ...
